First
half goals from Alfie Mawson and Martin Olsson secured a seventh win for
Swansea this term and moved them four points above relegation zone and three
ahead of reigning champions Leicester City who have 21 points from 25 games.
The
game was Ndidi’s fifth start since joining the club in January. His compatriot
Ahmed Musa was an unused substitute in the defeat. Musa has featured in 18 EPl
games, scoring twice.
The
defeat was the fifth consecutive for the Foxes this season and Claudio
Ranieri’s side became the first English reigning champions to fail to score in
six straight league games.
Leicester
City last scored in the league in their 1-0 win over West Ham United on the
31st of December in 2016.
Leicester
City started the game with a fast pace, stringing quick passes around the
Swansea area but lacking in the final third. But the pressure on Swansea saw
both Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater watch their efforts blocked.
Ndidi
also had his shot from outside the box blocked by the Swansea defenders.
But
against the run of play Swansea scored in the 36th minute through Mawson who
struck a half-volley into the back of the net after Fernandez had headed a pass
to his path.
Paul
Clement’s side doubled their lead in the final moments of the first period as
Martin Olsson beat Kasper Schmeichel from close range after latching on to
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s sublime pass.
In
the second half, the Foxes really threatened to get back into the game but the
hosts were just sitting back to defend their lead.
