The
director-general of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency
(NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari
for appointing women into prime positions in his administration.
He
described women as indispensable to any worthy cause in humanity, saying that
they have not wavered in their determination to make Nigeria better.
Peterside
spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt against the background of this year’s
International Women’s Day celebration, with the theme, “Be Bold for Change.”
The NIMASA boss said, “In all his endeavours, he has always given women much
needed support and encouragement to aspire to the highest positions.”
He
stated that women have contributed immensely to the growth and development of
Nigeria since independence and therefore deserve to be given every support
to achieve more.
Peterside,
who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in
the 2015 general election in Rivers State, particularly praised women for their
steadfastness, industry and perseverance in the face of daunting
challenges across the globe.
The
former member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House
of Representatives, stated that women have proven that they can hold their
heads high if given the opportunity. Peterside stated that NIMASA under
his watch will give women every leverage to become whatever they so desire as
women have proven time and again that they have all it takes to make humanity
better.
He
called on leaders at all levels to do all within their powers to eliminate
prejudices against women and promote gender equality, especially in relation to
access to education, healthcare and capital, eradication female circumcision,
amongst other harmful practices.
