The United Nations Children’s
Fund and Sokoto State Government plan to adopt new strategies in 2018 to
increase access to immunisation across the state.
UNICEF Chief Field Officer in
Sokoto, Mouhuiddin Mohammed, lamented that the current response to polio and
other vaccination across the state had remained “frustrating’’ in spite of
efforts to provide quality service to the populace.
He stated this during the
mid-year review meeting on UNICEF-State Government Annual Work Plan, 2017.
According to him, very low
turnout of women and children for immunisation remains the greatest challenge
which must be tackled.
Mohammed said, “Community
response is very frustrating, because in the health centres, everything is
there. We provide vaccines; other partners provide their vaccines, and they are
free. But the behaviour of the people is not remarkable. If they do not bring
their children, what will the workers do?’’
