Former Super Eagles striker Joseph
Akpala was on target for Oostende who lost 3-2 to Anderlecht in their last game
of the Belgian top flight play-offs on Sunday.
Akpala, who played 90 minutes in the
encounter, scored in the 68th minute to make it 2-2 for Oostende.
He ended the season with three goals in
17 league appearances for Oostende.
At the end of the play-offs, Oostende
secured a Europa League play-off ticket, while Anderlecht emerged champions of
this season’s campaign.
In another final play-off game on
Sunday, Nigerian quartet of Moses Simon, Anderson Esiti, Samuel Kalu and
William Troost-Ekong all featured for Gent who lost 2-1 away to Club Brugge.
Rabiu Ibrahim was not included in Gent’s squad.
Simon replaced Esiti in the 62nd minute
while Kalu and Troost-Ekong played for 90 minutes.
Despite the defeat to Club Brugge, Gent
secured a Europa League ticket.
Following the end of the season, Simon
played 30 games, scoring five goals; Troost-Ekong played eight games, Esiti made
25 appearances, Kalu scored three goals in three league outings, while Ibrahim
made only four appearances.
In the Russian Premier League also on
Sunday, Nigerian forward Kehunde Fatai scored the only goal as UFA pipped
visiting Ural 1-0.
Fatai, who was making his 22nd
appearance for UFA, scored in the 38th minute to seal the win for UFA.
Fatai has now scored six goals for UFA
this current campaign.
